This series has been most helpful to me. ...Friend,
This series has been most helpful to me. My Meeting, as seems to be true of many, is laboring to be more faithful and truthful to the tradition of Friends, and to be truthful in the mentoring and eldering of new attenders and members. As those dear Elders before us depart, there is a real need, and thy guidance offers a gift towards that.
Blessings,
Linda WilkLinda J Wilkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04307531394723506106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32734763.post-21407066877147854352010-05-17T17:26:38.113-04:002010-05-17T17:26:38.113-04:00Only if you'll return the favor for me, Chroni...Only if you'll return the favor for me, Chronicler! ;-)

And thanks for the clarification; it's good to be certain of your intent.Cat C-B (and/or Peter B)https://www.blogger.com/profile/10002916434676859262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32734763.post-43223113190000423122010-05-17T14:14:45.121-04:002010-05-17T14:14:45.121-04:00Thank thee for the recommended change, Cat. I need thee to proofread some other essays I am working on, too :-)Chroniclerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09975664843098264401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32734763.post-42917343740105267552010-05-17T12:08:15.550-04:002010-05-17T12:08:15.550-04:00I am also finding it rich and helpful (which I hop...I am also finding it rich and helpful (which I hope is not a dis-recommendation to other readers!).

However, I'm wondering if "situational ethics" is really what you meant to condemn in your description of secular society? At least my (admittedly, superficial) online research this morning makes me wish more people did use "situational ethics" in the world:
Situational ethics, or situation ethics, is a Christian ethical theory that was principally developed in the 1960s by the Episcopal priest Joseph Fletcher. It basically states that sometimes other moral principles can be cast aside in certain situations if love is best served; as Paul Tillich once put it: "Love is the ultimate law".

(I'm not trying to play gotcha--it strikes me as possible you did, in fact, mean to condemn situational ethics as defined above, but also quite possible that you meant something more like, "ethics of personal convenience" or some such.)Cat C-B (and/or Peter B)https://www.blogger.com/profile/10002916434676859262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32734763.post-77803819110142573982010-05-16T22:39:56.986-04:002010-05-16T22:39:56.986-04:00Thank thee for this series of posts.
